happenings

different places have this funny way of showing us different parts of ourselves.

what shows up in us while we sit quietly in a coffee shop is different than what shows up while we stroll down a city sidewalk, stare out at the tarmac from an airport terminal, or stand over the coffee pot in our kitchen at 6 a.m.

do you know yourself in relationship with these places?

do you know yourself at midnight on the platform at grand central station waiting to catch the last ride home to New haven? or walking through the halls of your old elementary school? or sitting alone on a wooden bench in a park on your lunch hour? do you know yourself standing in front of the ocean, at the summit of a mountain? under the blue vapor streetlights at dusk?

as we move through spaces, how often do we just pause to observe? to not just look at the places we find ourselves in but to notice what arises within us while we're passing through them?

our lives are made up of an endless stream of interactions. moments of happening. of experiencing. of seeing, feeling, sensing. us - our sensitive, receptive, perceptive bodies - and this world. all it's chaos, order, noise, color, and complexity. a heightened awareness of the outer world can, if we allow it, if we pursue it, lead to a deeper awareness of our inner world.

there is still so much to discover.
